Editorial Assistant, MPG (MCPG-FSG BFYR's)

Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing, is seeking an Editorial Assistant (entry-level position) who will assist the Senior Executive Editor and Executive Editor. The main role will be to handle administrative tasks and contribute some editorial work, with opportunity for creative input and growth with the editorial team behind some of the industry’s most notable picture books, middle grade and young adult novels, nonfiction for all ages, and some graphic novels. What You'll Do:

  • Provide administrative support for the Senior Executive Editor and Executive Editor on the team, including
  • Draft acquisitions memos and P&Ls, monitor book production schedules and due dates, traffic passes to authors and/or reviewing passes), respond to queries, liaise with other departments.
  • Prepare and route forms and requests related to all parts of the publishing process on behalf of the Editorial Director and Executive Editors, including metadata input, contract requests, invoices, pricing requests, author/agent book orders, payment requests, Library of Congress CIP data, etc.
  • Organize materials for presentations for internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain professional and responsive communication with authors and agents.
  • Log, read, and evaluate submissions.
  • Provide editorial support such as reading, proofreading, and line editing.
  • Write copy for sales materials, tip-sheets, catalogs, book jackets, online feeds, etc.

What You'll Bring:

  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on tasks.
  • Excellent conversational and written communication skills. Proofreading or copy editing experience a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, respond to shifting and fast-paced environment, and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace programs.
  • Demonstrated interest in the children’s book market.
  • Previous book publishing experience/internships a plus.
  • Previous book sales or librarianship experience/internships a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

This role will have an annual salary of $50,000. This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
