Job Description
PowerBI Engineer Location: Remote, United StatesEmployment Type: Contract Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Power BI Engineer to design, develop, and deliver secure, scalable analytics solutions. This role focuses on advanced Power BI development, data modeling, and enforcing data access controls through identity governance. The objective is to ensure sensitive business data is accessible only to authorized users in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports, and KPIs using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.Develop advanced Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) calculations and measures to support complex analytical needs.Build and optimize data models, relationships, and transformations using Power Query.Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and Column-Level Security to enforce least-privilege data access.Integrate Power BI with Azure AD / Entra ID to manage user access and permissions.Create audit and usage reports to support compliance efforts (e.g., SOX, GDPR).Collaborate with Information Security teams to integrate Power BI access with IGA tools for access requests and certifications.Work with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into technical solutions.Optimize data gateways, datasets, and reports for performance and scalability.Provide documentation and guidance to end users on reporting and data security standards.Support developers by conducting code reviews.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in data preparation, data modeling, and reporting using Power BI. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of SQL, Data Modeling (star schemas), and DAX. Demonstrated experience implementing data security, Row-Level Security (RLS), and Azure AD integration. Certifications: Security+ certification is required. Clearance: A Secret security clearance is required. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret clearance to start.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating Power BI with IGA tools (e.g., SailPoint).Experience with Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure SQL, Synapse).Knowledge of Power Automate for automating data alerts and compliance workflows.
